Vic: one new road death in Tasmania

Police say a teenage girl hit by a car in Burnie early today has died from her injuries.

A police spokesman says the pedestrian was hit while walking along Mount Street, Burnie.

The spokesman says the accident occurred about 0130 (AEDT) and the girl died in hospital
some four hours later.

The fatality is the first recorded in the island state since the holiday road toll
period began on Friday, December 22.

The national holiday road toll now stands at 37.
